Small, jewel-bright, and devastatingly accurate โ the European Tree Frog brings surgical precision to pest control. One auto-aimed shot, one bug down. The emerald master of 360-degree combat defends its ancient oak tree one round at a time!
In European folklore, the common tree frog (Hyla arborea) was kept in glass jars as a living weather forecaster. The frogs call loudly before rain, leading people to believe they could predict storms โ and they actually can!
Despite being only 4-5 cm long, male European tree frogs produce a remarkably loud call thanks to a single large vocal sac under their chin. The chorus of a breeding group can be heard from 1 km away.
European tree frogs can change color from bright green to grey or brown, depending on temperature, light levels, and mood. This isn't camouflage per se โ it's a physiological response to environmental conditions.
Once extremely common across Europe, this species has declined dramatically due to wetland drainage and pesticide use. It's now protected by European law and absent from large areas of its former range.
